YOUNGSTOWN ? Prayers will begin Saturday at 9:15 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Columba Cathedral for Loretta Cummings Saykes, daughter of the late John and Nora Cummings, who passed away peacefully at her home, she shared with her son, Gary after a brief illness of cancer on Sept. 1, 2010, surrounded by family and friends.
Loretta was born March 23, 1917, in Rossiter, Pa. She moved to Youngstown in 1927, where she met her husband, the late William Saykes on July 1, 1939. Loretta sadly lost William on Sept. 28, 1983.
Preceding her in death were brothers, Bob Cummings wife Sally, Larry Cummings late wife Dee; sisters, Rose the late Joe Christy and Agnes the late Sam DiBacco.
Loretta is survived by her brother, Richard Cummings and sister Noreen Gold.
Loretta?s true pleasure was being a good wife and mother to her six children, Gerald Saykes wife Karen, Lawrence Saykes wife Maureen, Judith Walker husband Jim, Shirley Basciano husband Rockne, the late Sandy McNally husband Jerry and Gary Saykes. Loretta leaves 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Loretta was never able to recover from the loss of her beautiful daughter, Sandy Saykes McNally on Aug. 1, 2003.
Loretta had a deep love for God, the church, family and community involvement. She was a 1st ward committee woman, social committee person of St. Monica?s Guild and social chairperson of St. Columba Council.
Loretta?s biggest dream was fulfilled in 1986, when her children sent her to tour Ireland.
