AUSTINTOWN - A prayer service will be held on Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Austintown, for Mrs. Madeline M. Sturgeon, 83, who died at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, surrounded by her family.
She was born July 22,1934, in Horning, Pa., the youngest of 13 children of Charles and Nellie (Dominokoski) Olesky.
Madeline was a 1953 graduate of Ursuline High School and had worked at Gorant Candies for 19 years as a candy packer. She belonged to St. Joseph's Church and the Ladies Guild. Madeline enjoyed cooking, baking, golfing, bowling, playing cards and slot machines. She loved taking care of her home and was especially proud of her yard.
Madeline married the love of her life, Robert B. Sturgeon, on June 16,1956, and he died Aug. 29,2006.
She leaves her daughter, Lynn (Chuck) Coristin of Boardman; her son, Keith ( Virginia) Sturgeon of Austintown; her three sisters, Charlotte Zitkovic of Findlay, Rita Kelly of Florida and Sr. Hedy Olesky of Chardon; nine grandchildren, Austin, Alec, Ryan and Reese Sturgeon, Kyle and Mackenzie Kondas and Shawn, Jon and Kris Jordan; and a great-grandson Henry Sturgeon.
Madeline was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; six brothers, Charles, Stanley, Edward, Bernard, Joseph and Louis Olesky; and three sisters, Stella Como, Ann Tabak and Rose Wozniak.
The family would like to thank the Inn at Christine Valley for all their compassionate care of Madeline.
