YOUNGSTOWN - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Christine Church for Margaret J. O'Connor McHenry, 77, who passed away Saturday at the Cleveland Clinic, after a brief illness.
Margaret was born June 9, 1932, in Warren, the daughter of Philip and Anne Deery O'Connor.
Margaret was a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Warren, and received a diploma in nursing from the St. Elizabeth School of Nursing. She retired from Assumption Nursing Home, where she worked as a nurse manager for 25 years.
A devout Catholic, Margaret, who was affectionately known as "Margie" was a member of the Catholic Nurses Association. She was also a long-standing member of St. Christine Church, where she had been very active.
Margaret leaves behind her beloved husband of 53 years, William F. McHenry, whom she married Oct. 6, 1956; her seven children, Bill Sandy McHenry of Medina, Peggy William Peterson of Charlotte, N.C., Philip Kim McHenry of Clearwater, Fla., Paul Jodi McHenry of Canfield, Brian Lori McHenry of Warner-Robbins, Ga., Kevin Gina McHenry of Canfield and Mary Kay Thad Tokash of Tallmadge; a sister, Anne Tom Timlin of Naples, Fla.; a brother, J. Paul Mary O'Connor of Naples; and her 16 grandchildren, Stacey, Andrea, Danielle, Nicole, Emily, Matthew, Alyssa, Connor, Keelee Shea, Taylor, Lauren, Cassie, Kelly, Scott, Liam, and Jacob.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Robert J. McHenry; a sister, Mary O'Connor; and a brother, Philip "Bud" O'Connor.
Margaret loved spending time with her family and friends, and was most happy while enjoying the company of her grandchildren. Through her work as a nurse and simply by her kind, compassionate nature, Margaret touched the lives of so many. She loved to travel, spent many summers camping with her family members, and also earned distinct appreciation for her famous chocolate chip cookies. Margaret will be greatly missed.
The family will be receiving friends Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel.
