GIRARD — Margaret “Peggy” Tompkins, 88, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021.
Peggy was born on a gorgeous autumn day, Oct. 17, 1933, in Youngstown. She was the first born of Atty. Joseph and Betty Johnson Modarelli.
Peggy was a graduate of Liberty High School and later graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., where she met her husband, Warren Drescher.
Peggy later worked as the paralegal aide for her father, Atty. Joseph Modarelli, in downtown Youngstown. After Atty. Modarelli’s death, Peggy became the volunteer coordinator at Northside Hospital, then transferred to the medical records department at Southside Hospital, from where she retired in 1994. Peggy later married the love of her life, Jack “Pepper” Tompkins, on Sept. 2, 1988, who was her constant companion and best friend until his death Oct. 17, 1998.
Peggy was an avid gardener, enjoyed traveling, and was a faithful follower of Christ who attended First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown for 60 years. She was a devoted, loving mother to her family and enjoyed spending time with her many friends.
Peggy is survived by her loving daughter, Christine (Kenny) Warde of Pacific Grove, Calif.; her devoted son, Warren “Pete” Drescher of Lowellville; her daughter-in-law, Sheila (Drescher) Tourangeau; and her two sisters, Julie (Bill) Costas of Canfield and Joanie Saunders of Cary, N.C. Peggy also leaves six grandchildren, Ande (Brian) Wheeler, Selah Grant, Robin (Kurt) Russman, Chris (Maria) Brunner, Amanda (Maurice) Faraj and Amber (Dennis) Kirsch; and seven beautiful great-grandchildren, Renae, Camille, Ava, Alaina, Max, Natalia and Theo.
In addition to her parents and husband, Peggy was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathy Drescher; her two sons, Michael Drescher and William Drescher; and her two stepsons, Tom and Joe Tompkins.
Peggy’s funeral service will be at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2021, at First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown, 201 Wick Ave. Calling hours will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
The family wishes to extend gratitude to Peggy’s caregivers, Kim, Maddie, Liz and Debbie, and Mariah from Crossroads Hospice.
