POLAND - Prayers will begin Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at the Holy Family Church for Marjorie A. Hunkele, 83, who died unexpectedly early Monday morning at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
Marjorie was born Aug. 21, 1930, in Pittsburgh, Pa., the daughter of Millard W. and Mildred M. (Searfoss) Bauer.
She had worked as a secretary for Graybar Electric for two years before becoming a full time homemaker while raising her family.
She was a longtime and dedicated member of Holy Family Church. She had been a past president of the Alter and Rosary Society, a member of its Seton Circle, Hospital Visitation, Choir, Bereavement Committee, was a coordinator of Communion for the homebound and served as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister. In addition she founded the Holy Family widows group and was a volunteer librarian for Holy Family School for 15 years.
Her husband, Clyde Hunkele, whom she married Sept. 22, 1951, died Dec. 7, 2004.
She is survived by three daughters, Kathleen (Richard) Szmara of New Middletown, Amy (Scott) Dauglass of Amhurst and Nancy (Ed) Hamrick of Bazetta Township; three sons, Mark (Katherine) of Boardman, Danny of Poland and Karl (Robin) Hunkele of New Commerstown; two brothers, Robert (Lois) of Sebring, Fla. and John M. (Annette) Bauer of Pittsburgh; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Edward and Alicia Hamrick; and a sister, Mary Jane Mankey.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel.
