On April 12, 2024, Margrit M. Galano, 89, passed away at Assumption Village.
Born on March 9, 1935, in Dortmund, Germany, an only child. She lost both of her parents before the age of 3 and was raised by her grandparents and 2 aunts.
Margrit came to the U.S. at the age of 15 on the Queen Mary with her grandfather, Fredrich Schmidt.
She graduated from Union High School in New Castle. Her early career lead her to teaching dance at the Arthur Murray studio and selling paints at Sherwin-Williams. She later transitioned to becoming a bookkeeper for NEPCO, Galano Motors and various auto dealerships and restaurants.
It was during the purchase of her first car that Margrit met her former husband, Samuel Anthony Galano. In August of 1958, they exchanged vows and embarked on a journey together. At the age of 26, Margrit welcomed her only child, Cynthia Lynn Stackhouse, into the world. She also embraced Samuel's children, Sandra Lang and Samuel Alan (Molly) Galano as her own.
Margrit's interests were diverse and fulfilling. She was a proud member of the Saxon Club for many years and had been part of the Clen Moore Presbyterian Church of New Castle. In her youth, she found joy in dancing and being near the water – finding solace in its tranquil embrace.
She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Alexis (Scott) Stackhouse Stultz, Eric (Michelle) Lang, Chelsea (Tyler) Tennyson, Sammy Galano; her great-grandchildren; Olivia, Addison, Charlotte, and Oliver.
