OLMSTED TOWNSHIP - Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Boardman United Methodist Church for Marguerite H. Shields, 96, formerly of Struthers and Boardman, who passed away Saturday evening at the Renaissance Health Center.
"Marge" was born June 14, 1916, in Youngstown, the youngest daughter of the late Ivan Warren and Leola Mae Mercer Host.
She was a 1934 graduate of Youngstown South High School, and worked as a secretary for Truscon Steel and Republican Headquarters before joining the Visiting Nurse Association of the Greater Youngstown Area as administrative secretary. She worked there for 22 years, retiring in 1981.
Marge was active in church and volunteer organizations as a member of Athenaeum Club, Western Reserve Republican Women's Club, Martha Circle of the Boardman United Methodist Women, and the Youngstown Area Federation of Women's Club.
She was preceded in death by sisters Fay E. Gus Johnson and Kathryn Mario Centofanti; and brothers Warren D. Virginia and George F. Gertrude Host.
Her husband John A. Shields Sr., whom she married June 18, 1937, passed away June 21, 1992.
Marge leaves her son, John A. Priscilla Shields Jr. of Cleveland; three grandchildren, Julie Shields Gielow, John Anne Shields III and Rebecca Sean Coleman; and five great-grandchildren, Dillon Patrick, Thomas Dezso, Stefanie Marguerite, Bella Priscilla and Stephen Case.
Family and friends may call on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel and Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Boardman United Methodist Church, prior to the funeral.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, friends may wish to send memorial gifts to Boardman United Methodist Church, The Blackburn Home of Poland, Ohio, or the Eliza Jennings Senior Care Network of Cleveland.
Burial will take place at Petersburg Cemetery.
