POLAND - Prayers will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at the Holy Family Church for Marie "Bay" Antoinette Campana, 86, who passed away Friday at Hospice House, with her family by her side.
Bay was born July 17, 1928, in Greenville, Pa., a daughter of the late Bruno and Julia (Zappavigna) Spotleson.
Bay graduated from Campbell Memorial High School. She was the original cook at The Fireplace restaurant, when it was located on South Avenue, from 1972 to 1990. To this day, they still use her recipes. Bay loved to travel. She would spend her winters in Naples, Fla. and as often as she could, she would go to Las Vegas and Atlantic City. On her trips to Vegas, she would make sure to bring her "personal ATM machine," her son Joe. In her younger years, she enjoyed visiting her family in Greenville.
Bay was the matriarch of the family. She was known for her amazing cooking and would always make Sunday dinners. Her greatest love was her family and having any chance she could to spend time with them.
Her husband, Thomas A. Campana Sr., whom she married June 14, 1947, passed away July 1, 2002.
Bay leaves her daughter, Judith A. (Martin) Palma of Poland; three sons, Joseph (Karin) Campana of Colorado, Sam (Sherrie) Campana of Boardman, and Thomas (Karen) Campana of Poland; 10 grandchildren, Marty Jr., Jamey, Tara, Jason, Sammy, Joey, Kristen, Jeffrey, Alex, and Emily; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Joseph (Jane) Spotleson of Poland; sister-in-law Molly Spotleson of Poland; and many nieces and nephews.
Bay was also preceded in death by a brother, Fred Spotleson.
