Marie Sammartino

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 7345 Westview Dr. Boardman, for Marie C. Sammartino, 92, passed away peacefully Thursday morning surrounded by family, at the Inn at Poland Way.
Marie was born August 26, 1925 in Youngstown, Ohio, a daughter of Lawrence and Sarah Altier. She was a graduate of East High School.
Her husband, Albert P. Sammartino, whom she married June 22, 1946, passed away April 9, 1983. Marie retired from Home Savings and Loan, where she worked as a loan secretary for many years.
She was a proud member of Yo-Mah-Oh Secretaries Association and served Interment on several committees, including the Youngstown Italian Fest, St. Charles Festival and many other civic associations. Marie was a life-long member of St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Boardman.
Through the years Marie enjoyed dancing, reading, listening to Italian music, entertaining, cooking and hosting large Italian meals for friends and family.
Her greatest joy came from her family, and she leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, Lawrence (Mary Beth) Sammartino, and Stephanie Anthony; her grandchildren, Andrew (Samantha Garrity) Anthony, Christopher (Lisa) Sammartino, Matthew Sammartino, Jennifer (Jason) Codrea, Larry (Jenna) Sammartino; two step grandchildren, Adam (Colleen) Smith and Ryan (Whitney Dewel) Smith; her sister, Carmella DiGaetano, with whom she did almost everything; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may call from 8:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at St. Charles Church. Intermit will be private.
