Marie Scott

BOARDMAN - A prayer service will be held Tuesday at 10:15 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel and at 11 a.m. at St. Cyril and Methodius, Youngstown, for Miss Marie O. Scott, 75, who died Saturday morning at the Hospice House.

She was born Feb. 23, 1936, in Youngstown, a daughter of James W. Scott Sr. and Mildred Fairman Scott Broda.

Marie was a 1953 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and had attended Youngstown State University and Kent State University. She had retired from Henry P. Nemenz Food Stores office, where she was an executive director, and previously had worked at Loblaw Inc., Tamarkin Co. and the Youngstown Area Grocers Association and had taught at the Mahoning County Vocation School. Marie was a member of the church, the Ladies Guild, the Altar and Rosary, Infant Jesus of Prague, Parish Council Lector and received the Outstanding and Dedication Service Award.

She was inducted into the 1984 Youngstown Women's Bowling Association, the 1999 Curbstone Coaches Assoc. Hall of Fame for her bowling accomplishments and was nominated for the Athena Award.

Marie was on the Board of Directors for the American Cancer Society and was the 2003 Chair of its Tri-County Golf Classic, was on the Board of Directors for the American Diabetes Association and was the Honorary Chair of the Diabetes Walk, the Board of American Red Cross, was a Lifetime Board Member of the American Heart Association and co-chaired its celebrity event, and was past president and Board Member of Poland Rotary.

She was an avid golfer for 50 years, an avid Bocce ember of the Arco Club, an avid bowler for many area leagues and was a Board Member of the Youngstown Bowling Association.

She leaves two sisters, Linda Stephen Prusak of Austintown and Georgia Stephen Sr. Bendel of Boardman; a brother, Donald P. Carol Scott Sr. of Austintown; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She also leaves a dear family close friend, Loretta Smith.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, James W. Scott Jr.

Friends may call today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to one of the associations that Marie devoted her time to.

The family would like to thank the staff at Shepherd of the Valley and Hospice House for their care and compassion towards Marie.
