NEW SPRINGFIELD - Funeral services will be held Thursday at noon at the New Middletown Free Methodist Church in New Middletown for Marie L. Yost, 93, who passed away Saturday evening, April 9, 2016, at Caprice Health Care Center, surrounded by her family.
Marie was born Nov. 27, 1922, in New Springfield, a daughter of the late Raymond and Sophia (Giesmann) Sheely.
Marie graduated from Springfield High School in 1941. Her first jobs were picking strawberries, doing housework and serving meals. She also worked at the A&P in Columbiana and Mazda Lamps in Youngstown.
Marie was a longtime member of the New Middletown Free Methodist Church, where she was in charge of the Cradle Roll Nursery for 23 years. She loved working with the "little ones." Marie was also involved in the September Years program at the church and sang in the choir for many years.
One of the proudest moments of Marie's life was when she married the "love of her life," James S. "Jim" Yost, whom she married on July 3, 1949. Jim passed away April 3, 2014.
Marie leaves her daughter, Connie DiPiero of Youngstown; two sons, Larry (Marcia) Yost of Poland and Brad (Judie) Yost of Canal Fulton; four grandchildren, Dr. Raymond (Dr. Christy) Yost of Westland, Mich., Rachel (Vince) Asciutto of Massillon, Michael (Lindsey) Yost of Poland, and David (Brittany) Yost of Columbiana; three great-grandchildren, James Asciutto, Miles Yost and Kalyn Yost; two sisters, Ethel Tompkins of Columbus and Twylah Schmidt of Poland; and a brother, Olin Sheely of Poland.
Marie was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Emidio DiPiero; a sister, Ruth Ackman; and a brother, Ross Sheely.
Family and friends may call Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon at the church.
Material tributes may take the form of donations to the American Heart Association.
Professional arrangements are being handled by the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel.
