COLUMBUS - Prayers will begin Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Church, for Marion E. Nischwitz, 91, who died early Thursday morning at Columbus Colony Nursing Home.
Marion was born Feb. 18, 1926, in Youngstown, the daughter of Patrick and Lorene Hughes Murphy.
She was a 1943 graduate of Ursuline High School. Marion began her career as a secretary, eventually retiring from Youngstown Sheet and Tube.
Marion moved to the Columbus area in 1996 to live closer to her daughter. She enjoyed playing Bridge, and was a member of various Bridge clubs for many years.
Marion is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann (Andrew) McGonagle of Columbus; son Robert (Mary Rose) Nischwitz of Green; and five grandchildren, Thomas, Colin, and Micah McGonagle, and Sean and Lauren Nischwitz. Marion also leaves her sisters-in-law, Mrs. Martha Murphy of Liberty, and Mrs. Darlene Nischwitz of Canfield, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband John Nischwitz; sister Kathleen Madden; brother Robert Murphy; and brother-in-law, Robert Nischwitz.
Family and friends may call on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Marion's family has requested no floral tributes. Material tributes may take the form of donations to Kindred Hospice, 540 Officenter Pl. Suite 100, Gahanna, OH 43230.
Burial will take place at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
