Marlene Sharisky

AUSTINTOWN - A prayer service will be held Saturday at 9:15 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at. St. Joseph Catholic Church, Austintown, for Marlene Sharisky, 74, who passed away peacefully at Hope Hospice, with her family and friends by her side, on March 8, 2015, in Fort Myers, Fla.

She was born on April 19, 1940, in Youngstown, a daughter of John "Pete" and Eileen (Welsh) Nelson. She was part of a loving family of five siblings, Chuck (Carole) Nelson, Dottie (Rock) Lubinsky, Paul (Nancy) Nelson, and Bill Nelson.

Marlene graduated from East High School in 1958. She met her loving husband, Marty Sharisky, dancing at the Dairy Ranch in Hubbard, and the Elms Ballroom. They were married on April 15, 1961, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary and shared 53 happy years together. She was blessed with three children, Martin Sharisky, Eileen (David) Riffer, and Christine Sharisky; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two granddogs.

Marlene and Marty resided in Austintown, where she held many positions in the Austintown school system, most recently a librarian at Davis Elementary School. She loved to read, dance, golf, and play bingo. She and her husband, Marty, loved to host family and friends at their condo in Fort Myers, Fla. She liked to spend time at the beach and visiting with neighbors.

Marty and Marlene were members of St. Joseph Church, the Whiskey Creek Country Club and enjoyed golfing, going to casinos and participating in social activities. She liked to watch her grandchildren participate in sports and activities. She was an amazing wife, mother, and grandmother and will be missed dearly.

Friends may call Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
