AUSTINTOWN - Prayers will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Holy Name Church for Mary E. Bindas, 92, who passed away early Tuesday morning at Humility House.
Mary was born April 16, 1916 on Palm Sunday in "Lansingville," the city's South Side, the daughter of August and Catherine Hruby Hlebovy.
She was 16 when she left Wilson High School to work at Moyer Pants Factory. She maintained her position there until Nov. 3, 1936 when she married George W. Bindas.
Mary worked next to her husband, George, in his small grocery store in downtown Youngstown. She also worked at Atlantic Mills, McKelvey's and Hornes Department Store. She was also a member of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Union for over 50 years and a member of the First Catholic Slovak Union Catholic Daughters.
After the death of her husband on Dec. 22, 1968, she moved in with her daughter, Georgia and her son-in-law, Don Dragish Sr. for over 30 years. Through these years, she enjoyed spending time with her daughter, son-in-law, and her grandchildren, Sonya and Donnie, which were the joys of her life. Mary was the very best mother and best friend a family could ever have.
Mary leaves her daughter, Georgia Don Dragish Sr. of Youngstown; two grandchildren, Sonya Hennessy and Donnie Dragish; and a great-granddaughter, Mary Kate Hennessy. She also leaves her sisters, Agnes Antalocy and Jenny Balestrino, and brother, Gus T. Hlebovy.
Besides her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by her sisters, Frances Olenick and Stella Horvath; a brother, John Hlebovy; and granddaughter-in-law, Zandra Franco-Dragish.
Friends may call Thursday, April 2, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel.
