YOUNGSTOWN - A memorial Mass will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. at St. Charles Church in Boardman, for Mrs. Mary Lou Bretz, 89, who died Tuesday at Sunrise of Poland Assisted Living.
Mary Lou was born Sept. 6, 1927, in Youngstown, a daughter of Frank and Louise (Hoffman) Griffiths.
She graduated from Ursuline High School and was a former member of St. Charles Church.
Her greatest joy was taking care of her family, which was her true passion. Mary Lou was an avid bridge player and enjoyed volunteering for her community.
She married Richard "Dick" Bretz on June 21, 1952, and he died June 13, 2016.
Mary Lou leaves her five children, Susan McGarvey of Canton, Barbara (Fred) Tarr of Mineral Ridge, Janet Bretz of Medina, David (Pamela) Bretz of San Diego and Carolyn (Edward) Hamm of Knoxville, Tenn.; a brother, Richard (Alma) Griffiths of Gainesville, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dick; and her brother, Frank Griffiths.
Friends may call on Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. at St. Charles Church, 7325 Westview Drive in Boardman.
