AUSTINTOWN — Mary J. Smith Cappelli, 78, peacefully joined her loved ones in heaven, Thursday, June 20, 2024, from a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family.
Born April 19, 1946, in Richmond, W.Va., Mary is the daughter of Hazard and Helen Martin Smith.
She was a graduate of Campbell Memorial High School.
Mary was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family, loved shopping, decorating her home and watching scary movies with her grandson, John.
Mary leaves behind her three daughters, Darla (Dan) Zeigler of Salem, Linda Sonnenlitter of Austintown (John Bischoff of Canfield) and Gina (John) Mitchell of Thompson; four grandchildren, Nicole, Danielle, Danny and John; two great-grandchildren, Aidan and Addyson; two sisters, Leona (Robert) Treharn of Austintown and Edith McDonough of Boardman; and brother, Thomas (Linda) Smith of Youngstown.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph Patrick Cappelli, whom she married Dec. 31, 1963, and who died March 11, 1988; son, Joseph Vincent Cappelli; sister, Brenda Elkins; and brother, Lonny Smith.
Per Mary’s request, there will be no calling hours or services.
Professional arrangements are being handled by the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel.
