BOARDMAN - A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, officiated by the Rev. Gerald DeLucia, for Ms. Mary Louise Damiano, 83, who was welcomed into God's heavenly kingdom by his angels on May 11, 2016, at Hospice House.
Ms. Damiano, affectionately known as "Mary Lou," was born on March 31, 1933, in Youngstown, daughter of Lewis and Anna (Wasylychyn) Colucci.
Mary Lou graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1951, and worked in retail for most of her life. She began her career at Strouss Department Store, before moving on to The Higbee Company in downtown Youngstown, from where she retired in the early 80s. She received several awards for being the top salesperson at The Higbee Company.
In her spare time, Mary Lou enjoyed crafts, shopping for good bargains, reading, cooking, dancing, and watching old movies on TCM. Above all things, Mary Lou loved her family, for whom she cared her entire life.
She leaves behind to cherish all of their wonderful memories, her two daughters, Charmaine Rusu of Phoenix and Roxann Sabelli, with whom she made her home; brother Stephen (Barbara) Colucci of Utah; grandson Sammy (Abigail) Rusu of Peoria, Ariz.; granddaughter Crystal (Travis) Muldowney of San Tan Valley, Ariz.; two great-granddaughters, Emily Sophia and Gabriella Rusu; great-grandson Lincoln James Muldowney; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Mary Lou was preceded in death by her brother, Samuel Paul Colucci.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday from 10 to 10:50 a.m. at the church.
Inurnment will take place at Poland Riverside Cemetery following the Mass.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staffs of Home Care with Heart, St. Elizabeth Health Center, and Hospice House for their compassionate care of Mary Lou. They also request, in lieu of flowers, material donations be made in Mary Lou's name to Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, Poland, OH 44514.
