POLAND - Prayers will begin Wednesday morning at 9:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at the Holy Family Church for Mary Louise Sebest Gary, 95, who died Sunday.
Mary Louise was born Nov. 2, 1916, in Youngstown, the daughter of George and Catherine Romer Derni. After the deaths of her parents at the age of three, she was adopted by John and Catherine Kondrick Chuey.
She was a 1934 graduate of Youngstown South High School and later earned her bachelor's degree in Education from Kent State University. She had taught for the Youngstown Board of Education at Lincoln Elementary and later retired from Washington Elementary after 26 years of service.
She was a member of the Youngstown, Ohio and National Educational Associations and had been a member of St. Charles and the Holy Family Churches.
Mary Louise enjoyed all types of needle crafts and during her retirement enjoyed senior tennis.
After the sudden death of her second husband, she hosted the Stephen Gary Senior Memorial Tennis Tournament in Florida.
Her first husband, John Sebest, died Feb. 16, 1971, and her second husband, Stephen Gary, died Jan. 25, 1977.
She is survived by two daughters, Arlene Arthur Magee of St. Claire Shores, Mich. and Dianne Mark Phillips of Poland; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, John Sebest; two brothers; and a sister.
