LORDSTOWN - Mary C. Helsel, 94, died peacefully Saturday evening at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Helsel was born on Sept. 6, 1921, in Mahanoy City, Pa., daughter of John and Anna (Chonko) Bush.
After completing high school, Mary worked for the Ravenna Arsenal during World War II, where she met her husband. She later worked for Sherwood Coat Manufacturer in Alliance as a seamstress. She retired in 1975, after 20 years.
Mary was a devote Catholic, as a member of St. James and St. Catherine's, now Our Lady of the Lakes Parish. She enjoyed playing cards and board games, knitting, sewing, and playing bingo. She also loved to read, and was a member of the Red Hat Society.
Mary's husband, Delbert W. Helsel, whom she married on June 28, 1945, died in May of 1994.
She is survived by her daughter, Shirley J. Dugan, with whom she made her home; sister Dolly Vinchur of New Jersey; brother Steven Bush of Pennsylvania; six grandchildren, Michael, Kristy, Terry, Brianna, Casey, and Cathan; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, John and Anna, and her husband, Delbert, Mary was preceded in death by her two daughters, Joyce Ann, and Christina Malcomson; son Delbert J. Helsel; two sisters, Terry Parlier and Rite Raychuck; and brother John Bush.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
