POLAND - Prayers will begin on Monday at 9:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Holy Family Church for Mary Ann Kachmer, 77, who passed away on Dec. 26, at home surrounded by her family.
Mary Ann was born Oct. 1, 1935, in Youngstown.
She was a graduate of Ursuline High School and later the St. Elizabeth School of Nursing. She had worked as a Registered Nurse at St. Elizabeth Hospital, where she met her husband, Dr. Michael A. Kachmer, whom she married on June 29, 1957.
In addition to leaving her husband, Mary Ann leaves six children, Michael Lori Kachmer of Wheaton, Ill., Carol Kachmer of Los Angeles, Mary Lou John McGregor of Columbus, Jane Kachmer of Malibu, Calif., Mark Diana Kachmer of Denver and Patty Charley DeLana of Rowayton, Conn.; 13 grandchildren, Michael, Kyle, Danny, Mark, Molly, Emma, Zach, Maddie, Charlotte, Kylie, George, Kate and Harry; a sister, Sue Williams of Poland; and her very close cousin, Patsy Roche, also of Poland.
She was preceded in death by her mother Grace Saunders Hessler.
Mary Ann's greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her family and friends. For many years, she was a fixture at Holy Family and Cardinal Mooney, attending her children's sporting events and school functions. And for the past 25 years, Mary Ann and Mike traveled frequently to do the same for their grandchildren across the country.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and spent her life selflessly supporting those whom she loved.
Mary Ann was a member of the Holy Family Church, a Meals-on-Wheels volunteer and a longtime member of the Seton Circle. The support she received from these organizations, and her many unbelievable friends, helped sustain her fight these last two years. She felt truly blessed to have such friends, many of which go all the way back to her youth on the north side.
Family and friends may call on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Her family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to all of the nurses, doctors and therapists who touched her life throughout her long illness and gave her more time with her family and friends.
She supported many organizations and charities and asked specifically that people consider a donation to the Holy Family Church or The Beatitude House in lieu of flowers or gifts.
