AUSTINTOWN - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, preceded by prayers at 10 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Mary Lou Kane, 81, who passed away peacefully Friday afternoon at her residence surrounded by her family.
Mary Lou was born in Youngstown Aug. 17, 1929, to the late Lawrence and Mary A. Horvat Hackett.
She was a 1948 graduate of Ursuline High School and a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish. Mary Lou took pride in being a homemaker, but at times she worked outside the home at Union National Bank in Austintown and at Youngstown State University.
Mary Lou never stopped taking great care of her children and always prayed for their safety, well-being, and happiness. She was selfless in that regard and her children are so very grateful for the blessings and good fortune of having such a special Mom.
She will be deeply missed by her entire family.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Kane, whom she married June 17, 1950, and who died June 2, 1992; her son, Mark G., who died March 8, 2011; and her infant son, Michael P. Kane.
She is survived by her three sons, John Cathy Kane of Kent, Jim Kane of Pine, Ariz. and Bob Kane of McDonald; two daughters, Kate Kane of Austintown, with whom she made her home and Maureen David Loewenwarter of Missoula, Mont.; eight grandchildren, Matt, Thomas, Collin and James Kane, Hester Kane Stouder, Cassie Kane, Rachel Kane, and Krista Loewenwarter; great-granddaughter, Teaghan Kane; and a brother, Lawrence J. Hackett of Austintown.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, monetary donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley.
