Mary Karam

September 7, 1925 — January 21, 2017

CANFIELD - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Church for Mary Jane Karam, 91, who died peacefully Saturday evening at Vibra Hospital.

Mary Jane was born Sept. 7, 1925, in Youngstown, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Marar) Paul.

She was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and worked for WT Grant Co. as a manager of credit and collections for many years. Mary Jane also owned and operated the Golden Drumstick Restaurant. Mary Jane was very involved in her community, being active in Stambaugh Pillars, Youngstown Playhouse, Mahoning County Bar Association Auxiliary and Youngstown Symphony Society.

One of her biggest accomplishments was bringing in Danny Thomas to Youngstown for a St Jude Children's Research Hospital fundraiser in 1966. As a fashionista herself, she put on many fashion shows for various charitable organizations in the Valley. She belonged to the Youngstown Club, Tippecanoe Country Club and the Saxon Club, and was an active member for each. She loved to play and watch golf and tennis.

Mary Jane also loved to play cards, especially every week with her friends at Tippecanoe Country Club, and with her nieces and nephews any chance she could. Mary Jane had a zest for life and lived it to the fullest. She inspired us all to enjoy and appreciate each other and each day.

Mary Jane is survived by two nieces, Elaine Habermehl of Grants Pass, Ore. and Judy Stehnike of Grants Pass, Ore.; two nephews, John Kosa Jr. of Tucson, Ariz. and Gary Webb of Boardman; two great-nieces, Jenny Ann Powell and Janine Vining; and five great-nephews, Joseph Bryan, James Bryan, Jerry (Kathleen) Bryan, Jason Bryan, and Jonathan Bryan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Samuel E. Karam; sisters Ann Kosa and Valeria Jones; and brother John Paul.

Family and friends may call Tuesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church, prior to Mass.

Mary Jane's family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to Stambaugh Pillars, 1000 Fifth Ave., Youngstown, OH 44504.

Professional arrangements are being handled by the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel.
