CANFIELD-Services will be Wednesday morning at 9:15 AM at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel and at 10:00 AM at St. Luke Catholic Church for Mary Frances McGinnis Madden age 90 who passed away Friday evening at the Home of her daughter in Marlton, NJ. Mary Frances was born May 11, 1917 in Washington, PA, the daughter of Harry and Gertrude Burns McGinnis. Because of health complications due to premature birth she was not expected to live. So her mother named her Mary and dressed her in blue and white in honor of her patron saint the Blessed Virgin Mary. She continued this tradition as a symbol of faith for seven years until her health was fully restored.
She was a 1936 graduate of Ursuline High School where she was a member of the Ursuline Club. She later became a member of the St. Columba Theresan Club and also sang on area radio programs with her sisters Regina and Jane as the McGinnis Trio.
After the war she moved to the Buffalo, NY area with her loving husband, Vincent Lawrence Madden. They made thier home there for almost 50 years. During that time she was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, the Parent Teachers Association, and the Sts. Peter and Paul Coral Group.
She returned to Youngstown in 2000.
She is survived by her daughter Eileen William Dorian Burkett Burkett of Marlton, NJ, two grandchildren James and Christopher Lisa Mattie Wisel of New Jersey, a sister Ann Norman Miller of Denver, Colorado, and two sisters-in-law, Beatrice Kramer of Poland, and Kathleen Donnelly McGinnis of Youngstown.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Vincent Lawrence Madden whom she married May 18, 1946 in Youngstown and who died September 29, 1978, a daughter Patricia Madden, three sisters, Regina Crigler, Jane Brannigan and Gertrude McGinnis, and a brother Harry "Mac" McGinnis
