YOUNGSTOWN - Prayers will begin Friday, May 22, 2015 at 9:15 AM at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick Church for Mary Helen (McBride) Palma, 90, who died early Tuesday morning at Assumption Village Nursing Home surrounded by her family.
Mary Helen was born Aug. 24, 1924, in Youngstown, to John J. and Helen (Marrie) McBride.
She was a 1942 graduate of East High School and dedicated her life to her family.
Mary Helen was a member of St. Patrick Church and the Altar and Rosary Society, past President of the FOP Women's Auxillary Lodge #8, and Cardinal Mooney Booster Club.
She was also an avid Notre Dame and Cardinal Mooney fan.
Mary Helen's husband, Robert F. Palma, whom she married Sept. 22, 1945, died May 8, 2003.
She is survived by her son, Robert M. (Diane) Palma of Canfield; a brother Thomas (Jean) McBride of Boardman; a daughter-in-law Jan Palma of Poland; a sister-in-law Peggy McBride; five grandchildren, Kelly Palma, Kevin Palma, Kate (Eric) Rusu; Robert W. (Erin) Palma, and Patrick Palma; and three great-grandchildren, Dominc, Mason, and Connor.
Mary Helen was also preceded in death by two sons, John W. Palma and James E. Palma; a sister, Rita Ann McBride; and two brothers John McBride and James McBride.
Family and friends may call Thursday, May 21, 2015 from 5 to 8 pm at the funeral home.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. William Eddy, Dr. Glen Novak and the entire staff at Assumption Village for the excellent care given to Mary Helen.
The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to St. Patrick Church, 1420 Oakhill Ave. Youngstown, OH 44507.
