BOARDMAN - Private family services will be held for Mrs. Mary Jean Purucker, 84, who passed away peacefully with her family by her side, Friday morning at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
Mrs. Purucker was born on June 2, 1931, in Warren, daughter of Glenn and Beryl (George) Martin.
She graduated from Austintown Fitch High School.
Mary Jean was a beloved mother and homemaker, who dedicated her life to caring for her family, and for her home for her entire life. Spending time with her children, and later her grandchildren and great grandchildren was one of her favorite things to do.
She was a member of a bowling league, ladies card club, and she loved to sing and sang Ave Maria on WKBN Radio. She enjoyed cooking, especially her famous spaghetti dinners. She was a classic movie enthusiast and shared the love of old movies with her children and grandchildren.
In her spare time, Mary Jean also enjoyed and took pride in teaching her family about art, history and politics. She was known for her kind, generous heart, and willingness to help anyone who needed it. She always looked her best wherever she went. She was the epitome of class, style and grace.
Her husband, John C. Purucker, whom she married on April 7, 1952, died Feb. 13, 2009.
Mary Jean leaves behind her four daughters, Jennifer (Dan) McNally of Boardman, Julia (Jerry) Kurtz of Columbiana, Judy Purucker of Boardman and Jackie (David) Jacobson of Poland; son John Purucker of Canfield; three sisters, Corrine Crish of Boardman, Carol DeZee of Texas and Dinah Taddai of Canfield; brother Bill Martin; nine grandchildren, Joseph, Justin, Natalie, Kristin, Jason, Erika, Zachary, Jenna and Katie; and three great-grandchildren, Morgan, Austin and Sophea.
Mary Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Beryl; and her husband, John; two brothers, Richard Martin and Glenn Martin; two sisters, Judy Fortnat and Patricia Martin.
Professional arrangements are being handled by the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel.
