Mary Roznoy

May 5, 1928 — July 6, 2017

MOSELEY, VA. - Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, for Mary (Duponty) Roznoy, 89, who passed away unexpectedly on July 6, 2017.
Mary was born on May 5, 1928, to the late James and Anna (DeLuca) Duponty.
Mary graduated in 1948 from Campbell Memorial High School and after graduation, entered the work force with General Electric.
Mary lived most of her life in Ohio until moving to Virginia to be with her family upon the death of her husband.
While on a trip to Atlantic City, N.J. with some of her friends, she met her future husband, Arthur J. Roznoy, and they were married on Oct. 3, 1964, in Youngstown.
After she was married, Mary took a break from her job to raise her only child, Shirley, who was the apple of her eye. The family enjoyed many things together, including trips to the Jersey shore, dance competitions, and spending many fun times at their family parties. Mary also enjoyed playing cards with her ladies group, working around her yard, and making some great Italian dishes.
Mary resumed the work force after her daughter started school with General Electric and remained there until she retired in 1984.
She was also a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.
Mary's greatest pride and joy was her two grandchildren, David Matthew Johnson and Michael James Johnson. From the time they were born, Mary spent every day watching them with her husband and they were well-known around the schools and sporting events for never missing any swim team, basketball, baseball games or other events. Even after her daughter moved to Virginia, they traveled down there frequently to not miss anything special for the grandkids.
Upon her husband's death on July 12, 2014, Mary moved to Virginia to live with her family. Mary was a fighter and survived battling cancer right after this move. She spent each day taking care of the house, watching her beloved granddog, Apollo, and enjoying watching the neighborhood activity from the front porch.
Mary enjoyed remaining active and traveled with her family everywhere, including trips to Hilton Head, S.C. and Florida, travel baseball games, brewery and winery tours, and college visits. Mary enjoyed frequently visiting some of the local establishments, where she was referred to as "Grandma" by the staff. She always had a smile on her face and was kind and loving to everyone she met.
Mary survived long enough to see David graduate from Wake Forest University and be accepted to medical school and Michael graduate from high school and be accepted to play college baseball. Everywhere she went, she boasted about them and everyone knew them as "the doctor" and "the baseball player."
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley (David) Johnson from Moseley, Va., where she made her home; her two grandsons, David and Michael; her brothers, Anthony (Doris) Duponty of Poland and James Duponty of Margate, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother, George Duponty; and sister Madeline Tatarka.
Family and friends may call Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Mary will be laid to rest next to her husband and other family at St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
