NORTH LIMA - Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel for Mary Schaeffer, 89, who passed away Friday at Assumption Village.
Mary was born Sept. 11, 1922, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late George and Susan Andraso Varkonda.
Mary graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. She was a bookkeeper for 13 years for Gorant Candies. She was also a member of the Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church and was an avid bingo player.
Her husband, Paul R. Schaeffer, whom she married Aug. 21, 1952, and passed away July 26, 1990.
Mary leaves eight nieces, Donna David Wolfe of Poland, Sue Jim Balentine of Boardman, Brenda Bodine of Boardman, Myra Bob Miller of Canton, Lorraine Chapel of Youngstown, Linda George Hernandez of Georgia, and Susan Justin McKerman and Michele Lohry, both of Colorado; three nephews, Jack Kathy Schaeffer of Revenna, Bill Beth Bodine of California and Michael Jeannine Varkonda of Willard; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
Mary was also preceded in death by a sister, Suzanne Chapel and four brothers, George, Michael, Paul, and John Varkonda.
Family and friends may call Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at Lake Park Cemetery.
