POLAND - Funeral Services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel for Mary Theresa Suszczynski, 91, who passed away Monday evening at Hampton Woods.
Mary was born April 29, 1927, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Louis and Ethel (Stetts) Maxymych.
Mary was born in and grew up on Youngstown’s west side. She graduated from Youngstown Chaney High School in January 1945 and lived in Poland most of her adult life.
She married the love of her life, Ted C. Suszczynski, on June 1, 1946. He passed away Feb. 17, 1997.
Together the two of them in close partnerships began a business of industrial electricians, serving local industry, known as Youngstown Electric Service. She spent most of her career managing the office of her husband’s business. Upon retiring they traveled frequently including to Australia and an Alaskan cruise. They loved wintering in their Florida home and she joined her husband frequently on the golf course or boating in Tampa Bay. Mary loved her family and enjoyed being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Mary leaves her three daughters, Sandy (Ken) Weimer of Savannah, Ga., Gerri (Gary) Wiery of Poland, and Theresa (Bill) Olesky of Boardman; two sons, Ted (Christine) Suszczynski Jr. of Youngstown, and Mark (Danielle) Suszczynski of Poland; 20 grandchildren, Jennifer (Mike) Welch, Michelle (Kevin) Cooper, John Weimer, Bryan (Tracy) Wiery, Lora (Jim) Potashnik, Jeff Wiery, Ted (Maria) Suszczynski, Michael Suszczynski, Stephen (Angie) Suszczynski, Christopher Suszczynski, Joe Suszczynski, David (Danielle) Suszczynski, Mary Suszczynski, Rachel (Geno) Lucente, Josh Suszczynski, Corrilynn (Craig) Hileman, Jessica (Jamison) Yates, Bill (Sarah Smith) Olesky, Rick (Jaclyn) Olesky, and Anthony Suszczynski; 20 great-grandchildren, McKenzie, Brendan, Neve, Braelynn, Luke, Chelsea, Reese, Abby, Alexa, Andrew, Aubrey, Alyxandria, Stephen, Samuel, Nerina, Cole, Elle, Grey, Tyler, and Addilynn; a sister, Ann Grich of Austintown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary was also preceded in death by two sisters, Stella Pavlechko and Kathleen Alexoff.
Family and friends may call Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
Much thanks and gratitude to the employees of Woodlands at Hampton Woods nursing facility who helped care lovingly and skillfully of Mary in her last years.
