NEW MIDDLETOWN - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. at the Holy Family Church for Mary V. Tabaka, 91, who died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
Mary was born July 11, 1923, in New Middletown, the daughter of Frank and Catherine (Mogelski) Tabaka.
She was a graduate of Springfield High School and had worked in the office as a secretary of the former Youngstown Sheet and Tube Corporation for more than 35 years before retiring.
Mary was a longtime, devoted member of the Holy Family Church. She enjoyed family gatherings and will be always fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews. Most of all she will be remembered for her legacy of dedicated devotion as a caretaker for 50 years of her brother, George, a paralyzed veteran, before his passing in 2001.
She is survived by three brothers, Bill (Mary) Tabaka of Boardman, Frank (Julie) Tabaka of Poland and Chester (Nancy) Tabaka of New Middletown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Nellie Tabaka, Josephine Jasinski and Theresa Serenko; and three brothers, Ted, George and Steve Tabaka.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the Holy Family Church.
The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to the St. Vincent DePaul Society in Mary's memory.
Professional arrangements are by the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel.
