YOUNGSTOWN - Prayers will begin Monday at 1 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 1:30 p.m. at St. Columba Cathedral for Michael E. "Mickey" Altier, 88, who died Monday, Dec. 22, in Winter Haven, Fla.
Michael was born Aug. 23, 1926, in Youngstown, the son of Dominic and Minnie (Winsimoner) Altier. After serving two years in the U.S. Army, he began a career at General Electric in Youngstown, where he worked for 43 years, retiring as its head mechanic in 1985. He was a former member of St. Nicholas Church in Struthers and St. Joseph Church in Winter Haven.
He is survived by his wife, the former Mercy C. Cruz, whom he married June 3, 1999; sons Michael (Kathy) Altier of Saltsburg, Pa., Stephen (Karen) Altier of Boardman Robert (Cathy) Altier of Youngstown and Jeff (Edith) Perez of Winter Haven; grandchildren Michael, John, Angela, Stephen, Patrick, Dominic, and Joshua Altier, Christopher Perez, Louis (Tanya) Cimmento, Gino Cimmento and Danielle (Barry) Burkey; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Rosemary Ferreri of Venice, Fla., and Elsie Thorton of Austintown.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ann M. (Prusak) Altier; a son, Joseph Altier; and five sisters, Dorothy Moulin, Donna Lynn, Patricia Haimerl, Margaret Adams and Carmella Nemeth.
Friends may call Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Monday from noon until 12:45 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel.
