YOUNGSTOWN - A memorial service will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel for Michael W. Betsa, 52, who passed away Thursday at Vanderbilt University Hospital.
Michael was born Oct. 5, 1964, in Youngstown, a son of William and Stella (Vivo) Betsa.
Michael was a 1983 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School and was All-State, All-Steel Valley in 1982 and 1983 and All-NEO in 1981, 1982, and 1983 in football. He also wrestled and participated in track, where he held the discus record at Frank Ohl Middle School.
Michael was a surgical tech for The Surgery Center of Huntsville for over 20 years. He was also an avid Penn State and Browns Fan. He was his mother's rock and he had a great love for his dog, Ernie.
Michael was enjoyable and was an all-around great guy, he will be deeply missed.
Michael leaves his mother, Stella Betsa of Austintown; a sister, Debbie (Eric) Bowers of Canfield; a brother, Frank (Kellie) Betsa of Chandler, Ariz.; nieces and nephews Kyle Betsa, Alec and Alaina Bowers, Jianna Betsa and Devin Betsa; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his best friends, Chris, Carol and Renee.
Michael was preceded in death by his father; his sister, Marie Betsa; brother William Betsa; his maternal grandparents, Ellen and Frank Vivo; paternal grandparents, Wanda and William Betsa; and an aunt, Shirley Betsa.
Family and friends may call Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Michael's family would like to give a special thanks to Michael's "second family" at The Surgery Center in Huntsville for all of their love and support they gave Michael.
