YOUNGSTOWN - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Christine Church for Michael F. Brennen Jr., 88, who passed away Monday evening, Feb. 7, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center after a brief illness, surrounded by his daughter, Susan and loving family members.
Michael was born Oct. 7, 1922, in Poland, to Michael F. and Sara Anderson Brennen Sr.
Michael was a 1940 graduate of Ursuline High School and then went on to the U.S. Marine Corp, where he served as Sergeant in World War II from 1942 to 1945. While serving in the military, he attended college at the University of Hawaii.
Returning from the service Michael returned to Youngstown and was employed at Aeroquip Republic Rubber as a purchasing agent and later went to Hynes Industries Inc. for many years, where he retired as a purchasing agent. He was a founding member of St. Christine Church. He was president of Mill Creek Baseball League, where he coached many years. He also coached St. Christine's football team for many years as well.
His first wife, the former Elizabeth Notaro, whom he married Feb. 17, 1944, in San Francisco, passed away Jan. 30, 1996.
Michael leaves his wife, the former Lillian Fairless, whom he married in November of 1996; his daughter, Susan John Whitcomb of Sarasota, Fla.; three grandchildren Lori Elizabeth Edwards and Bret and Matthew Rupe; and five grandchildren, Tristan Edwards, Joshua, Jonah and Madilynn and Susanna Rupe, all of the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas area.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; and his brother, Norman J. Brennen.
