Michael Roberts

AUSTINTOWN - Prayers will be held Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at noon at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church for Michael R. Roberts Sr., 96, who passed away at his home on Sunday evening.
Michael was born Aug. 25, 1921, in Youngstown, a son of the late Angelo and Rosa (Calucco) Roberts (Mastroberti).
Michael retired as a brick layer from US Steel Ohio Works. He was a member of the Wick Lodge 481, Knights of Columbus, Youngstown Chapter No. 93, Buechner Council No. 107, and the St. John Commandery No. 20.
Michael had a passion for his garden, fishing and wine making. At the age of 91, he planted 7,000 garlic bulbs. He also enjoyed horse racing and was a barber on the side.
His wife of 67 years, the former Pauline Terrago, whom he married Oct. 12, 1940, passed away Oct. 26, 2007.
Michael leaves his two daughters, Donna Roberts of Columbus and Janice Perry of Connecticut; two sons, Ralph (Rita) Roberts of Austintown and Nick (Jody) Roberts of Newton Falls; 11 grandchildren, Vince, Teresa, Dominic, Nick Jr., Chris, Julie, Shelly, Judy, and Michael Roberts III, Michael Raymond and Adam Perry; and six great-grandchildren.
Michael was also preceded in death by a son, Michael R. Roberts Jr.; a sister, Columbia Lauiente; and four brothers, Joe, Tony, Lou, and Angelo Roberts.
Family and friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
