Mike was born on November 6, 1950, in Youngstown, Ohio, to the late Stephen and Ceil (Eppley) Yanek.

A proud graduate of Mooney High School, Michael cherished his education and laid the groundwork for a fruitful career. Yet, it was his passion for music that truly defined him. A talented musician, Mike had a special affinity for Polka music, which played a significant role in shaping his musical journey. His contributions to the genre were recognized when, in 1989, he was part of the Penn Ohio Polka Pals Grammy Nominated Album, marking one of the proudest achievements of his musical career. Additionally, his exceptional skills earned him a nomination for "Side Man of the Year" through the National Cleveland-Style Polka Hall of Fame in 2010, further underscoring his impact on the Polka music community. Mike spent most of his career with the Youngstown Street Department, where he worked diligently for 30 years, including a significant period serving as a foreman.

Mike's family was the cornerstone of his life. He shared 50 wonderful years of marriage with his devoted wife, Diane M. Yanek. Together they built a loving home filled with music and joy. Mike was passionate about fostering relationships with his family, often finding delight in celebrating life's moments together.

He is also survived by his brothers Don (Kathy) Yanek of The Villages, Florida, and Gene (Helen) Yanek of Bluffton, South Carolina. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen Yanek and Ceil (Eppley) Yanek, whose love and guidance forged the foundation of his character.
