CANFIELD - Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the
Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel for Attorney Milan Latas,
90, who died Tuesday afternoon at the Inn at Poland Way.
Milan was born May 20, 1928, in Lorain, OH, the son of George and Dorothy
(Boca) Latas.
Milan was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. and served his
country during World War II. He was supposed to be a part of the invasion
of Japan before the war ended, however, was then reassigned and stationed
in China after the conclusion of the war.
Upon his discharge from the military, he attended Youngstown College and
graduated from the Youngstown Law School in 1958.
Milan became a Lawyer in 1958 and started his career in the Youngstown Law
Department in the early 1960s. Later, he worked for the Mahoning County
Prosecutors office in Austintown and eventually the Mahoning County
Domestic Relations Court, where he served as a referee.
He was a member of the Bar Association of Mahoning County.
Milan was an avid traveler, and visited many countries. He was fortunate
to be able to travel to every continent, except Antarctica. Besides his
passion for traveling, Milan loved photography as well.
His wife, the former Marie Partle, whom he married Aug. 11, 1951, died Jan.
18, 2006.
Milan is survived by two sons, Atty. Mark (Vicki) Latas of Canfield and
Atty. Michael (Jill) Latas of Columbus; brother Sam (Mary Ann) Rusnov; and
four grandchildren, Matthew (Rachel) Latas, Ian Latas, Jordan Latas and
Sydney Latas.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and brothers Rudy and Michael
Latas; and sister Mildred Nacarato.
Family and friends may call Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 to
11 a.m. all at the funeral home. A Pomen service will be held Monday at 7 p.m. also at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that material tributes take
the form of donations to the Alzheimer's Association, 3711 Starr's Centre
Canfield, OH 44406, to help those affected by Alzheimer's and dementia.
