Mildred Skodacek

YOUNGSTOWN - Services will be Friday at 1:00 PM at Zion Lutheran Church for Mildred "Millie" Skodacek age 87 of Youngstown who died suddenly Sunday at her home of an apparent heart attack. Millie was born February 24, 1918, in Indiana Harbor, Indiana, the daughter of Michael and Suzanne Pribula Cech, and came to this area in 1962 from East Pittsburgh, PA.
She was a very active member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was a member of its choir, attended Wednesday Bible studies, and was a volunteer visitor at area nursing homes where she entertained residents with her organ playing. She was a former member of St. John's Lutheran Church and its choir. Millie was well known for her love of music and singing, and had sang with the Youngstown Symphony Chorus. She had also been active with local senior centers, was an avid bridge player, and had competed in the Senior Olympics, recently winning a gold medal in table tennis.
Her husband Rev. Dr. August Skodacek whom she married August 9, 1942, had served as the Pastor of St. Luke, and St. John's Lutheran Churches. He preceded her in death on June 5, 1996.
She is survived by two daughters Sharon S. Bob Zapko of Austintown, and Ruth Ann Skodacek of Portland, OR, two sons Samuel M. Skodacek, and Stephen John Joyce Skodacek both of Austintown, seven grandchildren, John, Suzanne, Amy, Katherine, Mary, Viki, and Ben, and two great-grandsons, Dylan, and Shane.
Besides her husband she was preceded in death by a sister Anne, and a brother Michael.
Friends may call from 2 to 4, and 6 to 8 Thursday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, and from 12 Noon to 12 :45 PM Friday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Cornersburgh.
The family requests that material tributes take the form of donations to the Zion Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
