BESSEMER, PA. - Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at St. Anthony Cemetery in Bessemer for Mildred "Smil" Valentine, 88, who died Friday, Sept. 21, at the Hospice House.
"Aunt Smil" was born Dec. 26, 1923, in Bessemer, the daughter of Frank and Frances Marasovicic Valentine.
After graduating from Bessemer High School in 1941, she worked at Andrews Lumber Yard in Mt. Jackson, Pa., American Cyanamid in Edinburgh, Pa. and later served as Payroll Manager of the Union Area School District in New Castle, Pa. for 19 years before retiring in 1991. She was a longtime member of Christ the King Parish, St. Anthony Church in Bessemer.
Smil loved to travel, read, old movies, animals and enjoyed dancing in her younger days. She will be remembered for her love of clothes and fashion and being a good friend to everyone, remembering birthdays with a card and never saying an unkind word about anyone.
She is survived by her two nephews, Gene Valentine of Georgia and David Roskos of Oregon; three nieces, Francine Pezzuolo of Austintown, Andrea Weill of California and Julie Mann of Campbell, Calif.; five great-nieces; seven great-nephews; and numerous great-great and great-great-great-nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Sauvi Roskos; a brother, Eugene Valentine; and a nephew, John Roskos.
The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to Hospice House in Aunt Smil's memory.
