POLAND - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church for Molly Vaughn Spotleson Frank, 86, who passed away Friday, April 1, 2016, with her loved ones by her side.
Molly was born April 10, 1929, in Chickasaw, Armstrong County, Pa., a daughter of George R. and Evelyn (Ringbloom) Vaughn.
After coming to Youngstown in the late 1930s, she graduated from The Rayen School in 1946. Upon graduation, she secured a position with the Motors Insurance Corporation in Youngstown. It was during this time that she first met her future husband, Fred, at Idora Park. Molly and Fred eloped and were married on Nov. 11, 1949, and celebrated 41 years of marriage together before his passing in February of 1991.
Early on in their marriage, they moved to Ormond Beach, Fla. to partner with her parents at Vaughn's Grocery from 1958 to 1965. After moving back to Boardman, they owned and operated the original Fireplace Restaurant on South Avenue with their partners, brother-in-law and sister Tom and Marie Campana, from 1972 until Fred's passing. During this time she also had a brief stint as proprietor of the Bazaar House, which she opened in 1977 next to the Fireplace. She and Fred also operated the Gatsby in Austintown from 1986 to 1989.
Molly married her late husband, Albert (Bob) Frank in 1999, and they happily enjoyed just shy of 11 years of marriage until his passing on June 16, 2010.
When her children were young, Molly was both a Boy and Girl Scouts leader. She also sewed clothes and numerous costumes for her daughters' dance recitals. She belonged to the Westside Bridge Club, enjoyed playing the slots in both Atlantic City and at Mountaineer and was always ready for a good poker game. She loved to travel, especially to her beloved Florida, as much as possible.
To cherish her memory, she leaves her three children, Fred (Barbara) Spotleson Jr. of Santa Rosa, Calif., Karen (Ron) Kreps and Susan (Jim) Fithian, all of Boardman; five stepdaughters, Cindy (Robert) Cares of Southfield, Mich., Denise (Mohammad) Bazargan of Houston, Kathie (James) Turk of Boardman, Lori (Mark) Giaquinto of Apex, N.C., and Marianne (Robert) Tiratto of Youngstown; eight grandchildren, Fred III and Ali Spotleson of California, Sean (Jennifer) Kreps of Boardman, Jennifer (David) Leonard of Twinsburg, Carrie (Bobby) Stackhouse of Canfield, and Josh, Jason and John Fithian of Boardman; 14 stepgrandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her brothers, George "Skip" Vaughn in 1994 and James and Edward Vaughn, who both passed in 2015.
Molly will be sadly missed by her dear family and all of her friends who knew and loved her.
Friends may call Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, and again Saturday morning from 10 to 10:50 a.m. at the church.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to both Crossroads Hospice, and the Woodlands/Hampton Woods for their compassionate care of Molly.
