Muriel Galias

YOUNGSTOWN – A prayer service will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Brendan Catholic Church in Youngstown for Muriel Galias, 88, who passed away peacefully Tuesday morning at Windsor House in Canfield.

Muriel was born March 18, 1930, in Chicago, to Paul and Teresa (Hauf) Rydberg. After graduating from St. Francis de Sales High School, Muriel attended Purdue University Northwest. She relocated to Youngstown in 1956.

Muriel’s husband of 33 years, Arthur Galias, whom she married April 27, 1957, passed away April 22, 1991.

Besides her husband, she was preceded by two brothers, Paul Rydberg Jr., and George Rydberg Sr.; and a grandson, Jacob Zarbaugh.

Muriel was a member of St. Brendan Church for 56 years and was very active in numerous ministries and organizations.

She leaves two sons, Arthur (Debbie) Galias Jr. of Richardson, Texas, Paul (Joanne) Galias Sr., of Youngstown; two daughters, Susan (Thomas) Zarbaugh of Canfield, and Jane Zets of Canfield; as well as her grandchildren, Erik Galias, Bryce Galias, Mary Galias, Paul Galias Jr., Andrew ( Mariam) Galias, Lisa Galias, Rachel Galias, Nina Galias, Amy Zarbaugh, Madison Zets, and Taylor Zets; and one great-grandchild, Reese Small.

Family and friends may call Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that material tributes may take the form of donations to the St. Vincent DePaul Society.

The family would like to thank Hospice of the Valley and Windsor House of Canfield for their loving care of Muriel.
