SAGAMORE HILLS - Prayers will begin Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Holy Family Church, for Myron Joseph Tama Sr., 85, who died Friday evening at Akron General Hospital surrounded by his family.
Myron was born Sept. 7, 1932, in Youngstown, the son of Stanley and Margaret (Kijowski) Tama.
He was a 1950 graduate of Wilson High School and attended Bowling Green University. Myron was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served his country during the Korean War, while stationed in England. After returning home from the war, Myron worked for the State Department as a decoder. He later worked for Youngstown Sheet and Tube as a claims manager for 33 years until retiring in 1997.
He and his wife were residents of Poland for 44 years until recently moving to the Cleveland area. He was a longtime member of the Holy Family Church and the Catholic War Vets. Myron enjoyed walking on the beach of Chincoteague in Virginia, his animals, and most of all, spending time with his family.
Myron is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, the former Dorothy Strines, whom he married Sept. 5, 1964; two daughters, Kelley (Tom) Rice of Seven Hills, and Sherri (Steve) Perdue of Sagamore Hills; son Myron (Jennifer) Tama Jr. of Medina; sister Sophie Dupuis of St. Louis; three granddaughters, Kaelyn Tama, Madison Tama and Aubrey Tama; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Frank Tama.
Family and friends may call Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Cleveland Clinic and Akron General Hospital for their care and compassion shown to Myron.
They have requested that material tributes take the form of donations to St. Jude Children's Hospital, or the Holy Family Church, 2729 Center Rd. Poland, OH 44514.
