BERLIN CENTER - Funeral services will be held today at noon at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, North Jackson Chapel, for Myrtle Thorpe, 82, who passed away Thursday morning at Blossom Nursing Home in Salem.
Myrtle was born June 22, 1930, in Pennsylvania, to the late William and Myrtle Wertz Smith.
Her husband, Cecil M. Thorpe, whom she married July 3, 1958, passed away Jan. 3, 2009.
Myrtle is survived by three daughters, Elma Baptiste Ripley of Ellsworth, Rebecca Robert Ruby of North Jackson, and Brenda Thorpe of Berlin Center; one son, Cecil M. Thorpe II of Lake Milton; three sisters, Elma Sell of Pennsylvania, Beth Hippo of New Mexico and Helen Rainey of Huntsdale, Pa.; two brothers, Jerry and John Smith; 15 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Meryl Baptiste; a daughter, Theresa Thorpe; a son, James Smith; a son-in-law, Robert Ripley; two brothers, Herman Smith and Bill Smith; and a granddaughter, Lynn Thorpe.
Family and friends may call today from 10 a.m. to noon at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at Berlin West Cemetery.
