NORTH LIMA - Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Nancy J. DiMuzio, 72, formerly of Austintown, who died Thursday afternoon at Ivy Woods Manor in North Lima.
Nancy was born July 27, 1938, in Youngstown to the late James and Anna M. Grebenicek DiMuzio.
She was a 1956 graduate of Chaney High School. She was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving three years active duty and 24 years in the U.S. Navy Reserve. Nancy was also the first woman meat cutter in the Mahoning Valley, working at the former K-Mart Food Store in Austintown.
Nancy was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and a life member of the Naval Enlisted Reserve Association. Her membership also included the Navy League of the United States-Western Reserve Council, where she served as president two terms; the Fleet Reserve Association Branch 324; and the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps Western Reserve Division, where she served as the Administrative Officer, Executive Officer, and the Commanding Officer.
She received many medals, including the Navy Achievement Medal, National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, and the Unit Citation Ribbon.
Nancy is survived by her sister, Amelia Esposito and her husband, Carmen of Austintown; two nieces, Michele Breckner of Youngstown and Carla Zinz and her husband, Gary of Austintown; two great-nephews, Kyle Zinz of Austintown and Mason Breckner of Youngstown.
Friends may call Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery.
Nancy's family would like to thank Ivy Woods Manor for the special care they gave Nancy, especially the staff on the Maple Unit.
