NEW MIDDLETOWN - A funeral Mass will be held on Friday at noon at St. Paul the Apostle Church for Naomi "Nickie" S. Molaskey, 78, who passed away Monday evening at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Boardman.
Nickie was born March 4, 1934, in Morgantown, W.Va., the oldest daughter of the late Orval and Kathryn Sweitzer Starkey. The family moved to Hermitage, Pa., while she was a small child.
Nickie was a 1952 Hickory High School graduate. While at Hickory, she was a member of the football homecoming court her junior year and was crowned Queen of Hearts her senior year. She was currently helping plan their 60th class reunion.
Nickie worked at Hudson Market in Sharon, Pa., and the Sharon Westinghouse Engineering Department from 1952 until 1956.
She married her high school sweetheart, Charles E. Molaskey on Feb. 11, 1956. They moved to Boardman in 1956 and to New Middletown in 1961.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and watching her grandchildren grow up. In addition, she liked having garage sales and planning automotive swap meets with her husband.
Nickie leaves her husband, Charles E. Molaskey; two daughters, Linda and her husband, David Savaet of Poland and Debbie and her husband, Jerry Slovinsky of Kinsman; a son, Charles and his wife, Angela Molaskey of New Bremen; two sisters, Janet Pitts of Jamestown, Pa. and Charlene Chizmar of Greenville, Pa.; two brothers, Chuck and his wife, Evelyn Starkey of Edinburgh, Pa. and James and his wife, Vickie Starkey of Hermitage, Pa.; six grandchildren, Jason, Lindsay fiance Bret, and Christopher Savaet, Julie Slovinsky, and Michael and Mitchell Molaskey; brother-in-laws Joe and wife Stella Molaskey of New Middletown and Ron "Jim" and wife Phyllis Molaskey of Poland; and many loving nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents and a grandson, Timothy Michael Slovinsky.
In lieu of flowers, material contributions may take the form of donations to the American Kidney Foundation, Springfield Township EMT Rescue Squad, or Autism Speaks.
On her behalf, her family wishes to thank Dr. Michael Evan, Dr. Mita Raheja, and Dr. Hilmer O. Negrete for their devoted care of her health.
And we also wish to thank the staffs of Boardman Dialysis Center, Caprice Health Care Center, Beeghly Oaks, and Masternick Memorial Health Care Center rehabilitation facilities, and St. Elizabeth's Health Center of Youngstown for their compassionate care during her illness.
The family will receive friends at St. Paul the Apostle Church of New Middletown on Friday, June 22, 2012, from 10 a.m. to noon.
