AUSTINTOWN - Prayers will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church for Nicholas J. Harris Sr., 90, who passed away Saturday at Hospice House.
Nicholas was born June 2, 1921, in Cleveland, a son of the late Vias and Violet Woods Harris.
Nicholas served in the Navy during World War II. He received numerous other medals on the USS Cleveland Destroyer. He was a truck driver for the Teamster 377 and worked at Ohio Fast Freight before his retirement. He was a founding member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and was a member of their choir and senior citizens, as well as an usher.
Nicholas was also a founding member of the AA1323 Club and a member of the Civilian Conservation Core, Knights of Columbus and American Legion Post 15 in Poland. Nicholas greatest love was for his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Nicholas leaves his wife, the former Pauline Hrynko, whom he married May 29, 1949; six daughters, Linda Welch, Nancy MacPherson of Weirton, W.Va., Alicia Tom Mylott of Bradenton, Fla., Cynthia Anthony Adduci of Austintown, Paulette Harris of Austintown and Judy Anne David Danko of Girard; two sons, Nicholas J. Denise Harris Jr. of Ellsworth and Dean Pam Harris of Austintown; a sister, Gloria Bob Foster of Ann Arbor, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Margaret Harris of Youngstown; 12 grandchildren, Emily, Amber, Alaina, Meredith, Jason, Kyle, Amelia, Lauren, Dina, Adam, Ian and Nicole; and three great-grandchildren, Jocelyn, Danielle and Deanna.
Nicholas was also preceded in death by three sisters, Elizabeth, Helen and Dorothy; and four brothers, James, Dean, George and Thomas.
Family and friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
