Austintown - Services will be held Thursday at 11:30 AM at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home Austintown Chapel 4303 Mahoning Ave.Youngstown, Ohio 44515, for Nick J Godinich, 86, who went home to be with the Lord Sunday August 24 at the Hospice House.
Nick was born Nov. 6, 1921 in Greenville, PA, the son of Frank and Katie Stuprich Godinich, immigrants of Croatia.
Nick worked for Bessemer Lake Erie Railroad in Greenville for 34 years as a Shop Foreman and Wrecker Foreman, retiring in 1975. He served in the United States Army during WWII. He was in Normandy invasion, and participated in the Battles of Rhineland, Central Europe, Northern France and Ardennes. He was injured in the Battle of the Bulge on Dec. 31, 1944 and holds the Purple Heart and Five Battle Stars. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and Pilots for Christ. He was a member of Highway Tabernacle Church, where he served as an usher. He was a driver for several years at Bob Eddy's Chrysler Corporation of Austintown, Ohio.
His first wife the former Betty J Stuyvesant who he married May 1, 1947 passed away Nov. 14, 1991.
Nick leaves his wife the former Alberta Ritchie Godinich; a daughter Myrna J Rodney Scales of Greenville; two step
daughters Cindy Leonard Cirelli of Youngstown and Sheryl Tim Luman of Mineral Ridge; five grandsons Eric Scales, Todd Sarah Scales, Michael Scarnecchia, David Cirelli, and Michael Cirelli; one granddaughter Melanie Scales; and one great grandson Colton Nicholas Scales. Nick will be sadly missed by his two little dogs Sophia and Bella
Besides his parents and first wife, Nick is preceded in death by three brothers Frank, Evon, and Steve; and three sisters Ann, Mary and Lucy and two brothers at birth.
Friends may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM and Thursday from 10 to 11:30 AM at the funeral home.
Commital Services with Military Honors will be held Thursday at 3:30 PM at Rocky Glen Cemetery in Adamsville, PA. Friends and family are invited to attend this special service
