P. Eugene ?Gene? Main
Canfield- Funeral Services will be Wednesday at 9:30am at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, and at 10:00am in the St. Brendan Parish for P. Eugene ?Gene? Main, age 84, of Canfield who died Friday afternoon at Forum Health Northside Hospital surrounded by his family.
Gene was born on October 31, 1922 in Youngstown to the late Paul and Hazel Pitts Main.
He was a 1941 Graduate of Chaney High School where he earned All City Honors in Basketball and Football. Gene served his country in the Army during WWII serving in the Pacific Theatre while stationed in Hawaii.
He was the owner and operator of Main Construction for over 50 years, participating in the Parade of Homes which he won multiple times. He also belonged to the Home Builders Association.
In later years he loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed dancing, crossword puzzles, and Big Band music. He loved to draw and many loved ones were fortunate to receive a letter from him adorned with his art work and sayings. He especially loved the Canfield Fair and in all his years he missed only one.
He was a beloved father and grandfather and will be dearly missed by all.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Anne L. Antonoff Main who passed away in 2004. and a great-grandson.
Gene is survived by two daughters, Shelley Ken Hoffman of Fairfield Glade, TN., and Kerri William Wollet of Canfield; two sons, Greg Patsy Main of Albany, GA and Brock Main of Canfield; two sisters, Evelyn Bosley and Laverne Frost and a brother Donald Main. Seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Friends may call Tuesday from 5-8pm at the funeral home.
