Patricia M. Hoyle, 94, passed away peacefully Jul 30, 2024.
Outgoing, warm, welcoming, generous, loving, thoughtful, kind: just a few of so many reasons we love Mom/Grandma/Great Grandma/Patricia/Patsy!
Born December 3, 1929 in Pittsburgh, PA, Patricia grew up in Pittsburgh and was predeceased by her parents, Rose and Al Darney and five siblings.
She graduated from St. Paul Cathedral High School where she served as class president and was a petite yet potent star basketball player. She was later employed by American Standard as a data entry specialist.
She met her future husband, William “Bill” Jones at a local roller-skating arena and they married in 1951. They moved to Youngstown, Ohio, and primarily raised their brood in Cornersburg until moving to Canfield in 1968, where they spent many happy years until Bill passed in 1975.
Though a long-time Ohio resident, Mom’s heart belonged to Pittsburgh, and their sports seasons found her cheering on her “Stillers” and Pirates.
Patricia was the best Mom ever to eight children and their spouses: Kasey, Mark (Becky), Billy (deceased 1976), Eric, Laurie (Kevin), Brian (Jeannine, Krista), Regis (deceased at birth) and Craig (Maura). She was blessed with 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to raising her family, Patricia co-managed Rodney-Ann Candies in Girard, Ohio, with her husband, Bill. She later worked for Canfield Schools and Gallagher-Basset Insurance.
Pat later met the second man of her dreams, Merl Hoyle. They married in 1997, enjoying many fine times and adventures until he passed away in 2007.Patricia always had a song in her heart and on her lips, and indeed loved dancing with both of her husbands. The Colony Club was a favorite date night. She was fond of traveling, from epic cross-country trips in a station wagon full of kids to beach adventures in the camper and later to various U.S. and European destinations, highlighted by an all-family trip to Ireland, her homeland. (Thanks, Mom!) She enjoyed regular trips to fairs, festivals, theaters and music productions (and TJ Maxx!).
Patricia never met a stranger, making friends wherever she went. She was an active member of Saint Michael Church in Canfield, and their Altar and Rosary Society and Garden Guild. She held several offices for both organizations. She also was an active member of World War II and POW organizations and a dedicated competitor in the Pay-Me Card Club. She loved playing/working with her flowers; and her gardens—front, back and side yards!—are truly among Canfield’s prettiest! Other favorite hobbies included Scrabble and crossword puzzles.
She would say that her kids are her pride and joy, but Mom is ours, always and all ways!
Loving thanks to many caregivers including Mercy Health, Care Angels, Hospice of the Valley, Windsor House, and Copeland Oaks.
