YOUNGSTOWN - Prayers will be held Thursday at 9:15 a.m. at the
Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, followed by a Mass of
Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Church, for Patricia Ann Kester,
80, who passed away Friday at Omni Manor Nursing Home.
Pat was born March 22, 1933, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Paul G.
and Eleanor M. Lavin Resch.
Pat attended St. Patrick School and graduated from Ursuline High School in
1951, where she was recognized by Bishop Emmett M. Walsh as Catholic
Exponent Leader in 1951.
During her younger years, Pat was a cashier at the A&P Tea Co. on Market
Street, where she made many lifelong friends. She later worked for Omni
Manor Nursing Home in the Dietary Department, retiring in 2011, after 26
years of employment.
Pat loved to cook and took pride in all of her meals, especially her stuffed
cabbage and Christmas cookies.
Pat was a lifelong member of St. Patrick Parish in Youngstown, where she was
a member of the Altar Guild. When her children were younger, Pat taught
cooking at St. Patrick grade school, helped with the Easter Candy Drive, did
volunteer work for the St. Vincent DePaul Society and was one of the
original founders of the Bereavement Committee at St. Patrick Church. Pat
was also involved in her sons¹ Cub Scout Pack 10 group and Boy Scout Troop
10 and the Campfire Girls.
During summer vacations, Pat loved her family¹s daily jaunts to Palmyra
Lake, their weekly visits to West Branch State Park and yearly vacations to
Lakeside on Lake Erie in Sandusky.
Pat leaves her five children, James S. (Liza) Kester of San Bernardino,
Calif., David C. (Doug Lovell) Kester of Upper Arlington, Patricia A.
(Patrick) J. Canavan of Boardman, Karen L. (Brad) Fitzgerald of North Lima
and Michelle C. (Bill Rankin) of Girard; two brothers, Paul A. (Patricia)
Resch of Boardman and James B. Resch of Youngstown; 11 grandchildren;
three great-grandchildren AND NUMEROUS NIECES AND NEPHEWS.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents and former husband, Fred S. Kester
Jr., in January of 2010.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral
home.
Patricia¹s family would like to thank the staff at Omni Manor and Hospice of the Valley for their excellent care.
