Patrick Malandra

Austintown- A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00AM Tuesday at St. Joseph Church, and Prayers offered at 9:30 AM in the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Patrick "Pat" Malandra of Austintown, who died Friday night at Mahoning Valley Hospital.

Pat was born October 6, 1926 in Youngstown to the late Louis and Isolena Casciano Malandra.

He attended Chaney High School, and owned Blake's Bar for 43 years. He retired from Packard Electric in 1991 where he was a Mill Rite. He was a member of the IUE Local 727, and the Carpenters Union, Local 171.

Pat was a member of St. Joseph Church. He was proud of his military service in WWII, serving as a Corporal in the 8th US Army in the South Pacific. He was also a member of the Italian American Veterans, Post 3.

His passion was running, he ran and finished 17 marathons. He was the founder and race director for the Immaculate Heart of Mary Run. Pat was also a founding member and Past President of the Road Runners Club where he was enshrined in the Hall of Fame in 1999.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Vern Pollock Malandra, they married October 27, 1951, she died June 22, 2004; he is also preceded by a son Carl Malandra, two sisters, Betty Mosca and Mary Pietra, and three brothers, Joseph, Vital, and Louis Malandra, Jr.

He is survived by his son Charles Marcia Bezak of Munhall, PA, two granddaughters, Kelly Don Learn and Cindy Bob Blasko, four great grandchildren, Jessica Blasko, Katie and Jenna Learn, and Kevin Luzar. Several nieces and nephews and good friends.

Friends may call Monday from 5-8 PM at the Funeral Home.

Burial in Resurrection Cemetery.
