Patrick Marrie Jr

BOARDMAN - Prayers will begin Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 9:30 a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church for Patrick J. Marrie Jr., 86, who died early Sunday morning at the home of his daughter in Gahanna, surrounded by his family.
?Pat? was born March 28, 1924, in Sharpsville, Pa., the son of Patrick J. and Catherine Casey Marrie.
He had served in the U.S. Army?s Chemical Warfare Division in the African Theater during World War II. He later worked at the former Republic/LTV Steel Corporation as a Tally Clerk, retiring in 1985 after 40 years of service.
He was a charter member of St. Luke Church, a charter member of the Mahoning Valley Gaelic Society, where he had been named Gael of the year and was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernian?s. Patrick will be remembered for his love of family gatherings and instilling in his children his appreciation for Irish heritage.
He is survived by his wife and love of his life, the former Laura Lewis, whom he married June 6, 1953; a daughter, Paula A. Marrie and her husband, John Worman of Gahanna; two sons, James M. and his wife, Debbie Marrie of Boardman and Don P. and his wife, Linda Marrie of North Lima; seven grandchildren, Jim Amanda Marrie, Missy Ryan Knight, Shannon Sam Freedy, Rebecca Marrie, Jason Worman, Eric Marrie and Jenny Worman; and many great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Lou Opritza, Kathleen Rider and Nancy Marrie; and a brother, Robert Marrie.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel.
The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to Mt. Carmel East Hospice, 1144 Dublin Road, Columbus, OH 43215 in Mr. Marrie?s memory.
